A small block of mass m is on a friction less table and is attached
to a horizontal spring.The other end of the spring is fastened to a fixed point at the center of the table. The block moves on the table in a circle of radius R. The radius is larger than the relaxed length of the spring (R > L). The spring has stiffness k sand a relaxed length L. How long does it take for the block to go around once?
In this question why is the absolute value of the force (of the spring) taken? Is it not Hooke’s Law F=-ks? I know how to get the answer, but I got R and L inverted because I still divided by the negative; what happens to it?
