Sam Jones is the owner of a thriving and successful Marketing company. Due to the recession, he wants to review his annual budget to see where he can make some changes to save the company some money. In his review, he notices that a large amount of revenue is being spent each year for office cleaning. He asks his assistant to do some research to find the different rates for other local vendors who might be able to provide the service at a lower price.Mr. Jones’ assistant does the research, and finds three different price quotes. The quotes she receives are slightly lower than the current amount the company is paying, but not significant enough.At a business lunch, Sam talks to one of his colleagues, John, about this issue. His colleague pulls him aside and shares that last year, his company started using a service that hires illegal immigrants from China that are between the ages of 13 and 15. John was able to cut his cleaning budget in half for the same services.Sam asks John if he has received any negative or legal repercussions from his decision. John explains that the cleaning crew comes late in the evening when no one is in the building, so the employees are not aware of the situation. He also adds that in low-income areas of China, it is common for a 13-year-old child to work full-time for economic reasons.
