OT Combined Heat/Power (CHP) Plant The O.T. powerplant operates a gas turbine with a supplementally-fired heat recovery steam generator (HRSG) to simultaneously produce power and steam. The gas turbine operates at a pressure ratio of 10 and a turbine inlet temperature of 2. 100 F. Assume efficiencies of 90%% for both the turbine and compressor. Inlet conditions to the compressor are 1 atm and 77 F. The turbine exhaust passes through a supplemental firing unit (also called a secondary combustor) in which it can be reheated to increase the steam-generating capacity of the HRSG. The HRSG is designed to take saturated liquid condensate at 15 psia and produce superheated steam at 400 psia and 750 F. At design conditions. the exhaust gases leave the steam generator at 250 F. 1 . Determine the mass flow of air (Ibm/hr) . the turbine exhaust temperature. and the thermal efficiency of the gas turbine when it is producing its rated net shaft output power of 40 Mw. 2. Determine the steam flowrate (Ibm/hr) that the HRSG can produce with no supplemental firing, and determine the overall energy use efficiency of the unit under these conditions 3. Determine the required amount of supplemental firing (Btu/hr heat input) required to boost the overall steam capacity of the system to 290.000 Ibm/hr. Calculate the inlet gas temperature to the HRSG and the overall energy use efficiency with supplemental firing at this steam capacity. 4. Determine the power required to drive the feedwater pump (BFF ). assuming a pump efficiency of 65%%. Gas Turbine Power Plant 750’F 400 psia Steam (optional) Boiler Other Sec. Steam Comb.
