Suppose I have three small objects of equal mass m3 m R 3 m Rm R m RIt depends on the angle.
. Suppose that I place them on a massless, rigid, circular hoop of radius R. Then, I arrange them so that two of them are on opposite sides of the hoop, and the third is out at some arbitrary angle. If the hoop rotates in its own plane, what is the moment of inertia for the whole system?

If you are given 4 masses (each with mass m) that are placed on the 4 corners of a square and they are going to rotate around the center of the square (the square has sides of length 2d), what is the moment of inertia, I, of the 4 masses. Ignore everything else but the 4 masses.
Hint: Make sure you remember all 4 masses and make sure you use the correct length. Also in the lab manual the equation for I is hinted at but not directly given. The more general form for moment of inertia is Ι = ΣmiR i2 .
