This era saw the rise of the nation-state on a global level and with that the creation of national symbols such as anthems, national flags, monuments, etc.
Thinking about Anderson’s definition of the nation as an “imagined community”, how do symbols such as “La Marseillaise” and others contribute to national unity? How do they appeal to the individual?
What other specific examples can you think of in your own experience?
