human population demographics and your findings with the gapminder bubble tool 1

For this assignment, you will use the Gapminder “Bubble” Tool to conduct your own quantitative assessment of population data. As you saw in Hans Roslingâ€s video DON’T PANIC — The Facts About Population, Rosling utilized the Gapminder “Bubble” tool to provide the audience a visual representation of the data points on human population demographics. The “Bubble” tool is an open-access instrument available to the public at www.gapminder.org/tools
First, watch a short video clip introduction on using the Gapminder Bubble Tool, and review the Gapminder Tool Guide. Then, use the Gapminder “Bubble” tool, analyze the following scenarios. To easily reset and clear data, return your browser URL address to: https://www.gapminder.org/tools/
Compile the analysis of both scenarios in a 2-page paper with a minimum 500-words (about 1 page for each scenario).
Scenario 1: Babies Per Woman (1900 to the present time)
Part 1: To analyze population data by “World Regions,” place the X-axis on “Babies Per Woman” and the Y-axis on “Time.” From the year 1900, select ‘playâ€. What is the range of ‘Babies Per Woman†born from all World Regions in 1900? And, in the present time? Record your findings.
Part 2: Keeping the same criteria, select the country of Mexico. From the year 1900, select “play.” Record your findings noting the range of “Babies Per Woman” born and record any significant changes in the timeline data.
Part 3: Read the program fact sheet, USAIDâ€s Partnership with Mexico Advances Family Planning. U.S. Aid From the American People (USAID) was established in 1961 to foster social and economic development on behalf of foreign nations during President John F. Kennedy’s administration.
Based on your own data analysis and review of the USAID program, what is your assessment? Record your data findings and evaluation of the USAID partnership with Mexico to assist with family planning.
In your analysis, illustrate the interdependence between population growth and basic technological advances in medicine. Include APA citations to support your assertions.
Scenario 2: Child Mortality (1900 to present time)
Part 1: Analyze population data by “World Regions,” place the X-axis on “Child Mortality” and the Y-axis on “Time.” From the year 1900, select “play.” What is the range of “Child Mortality – 0 to 5-years dying per 1,000 born” from all World Regions in 1900? And, in the present time? According to the present data, what World Region is experiencing the greatest rate of child mortality? Record your findings.
Part 2: In 2000, the U.N. introduced eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs); the fourth goal was to reduce child mortality. In 2015, MDGs were replaced by a new program the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Goal 3, to “ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages,” continues to address the needs of child mortality (United Nations, 2018). According to the goalâ€s target on “Child Mortality – 0 to 5-years dying per 1,000 born,” the UN wants to achieve 25% lower mortality per 1,000 live births by 2030.
Keeping the same criteria, select the countries of Japan, Guatemala, and Ethiopia. From 1900, select “play” to present-day. Record your findings, noting the child mortality range for each of the three nations. Notice the zig-zag in Japanâ€s trend in the range of 1940 to 1945. What world event occurred that would account for the zig-zag in the data? Guatemala reflects a current child mortality rate of 25 in 1,000 live births in children under 5-years of age – the target-level SDG Three seeks to meet.
Part 3: The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), originally known as the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund, was established in 1946 to provide resources to children and mothers in countries that had been devastated by World War II. UNICEF and non-governmental organizations such as the Gates Foundation founded by Bill and Melinda Gates seek to improve the lives of people in need around the world. Review the UNICEF report on Ethiopia, called “Survival and Health”. Likewise, the Gates Foundation has programs in Ethiopia, including health and wellbeing. Review the “Our Work in Ethiopia” by the Gates Foundation.
Based on your own data analysis and research as well as a review of the UNICEF and Gates Foundation programs, what is your evaluation of future improvement for Ethiopiaâ€s child mortality of children less than 5-years of age by 2030?
UNICEF and the Gates Foundation stand as examples of governmental and NGO organizations working to mitigate a global concern. What is your appraisal on these global organizations†impact in Ethiopia?
