Situation 1:On the Job Applied Case Study (Mira Sermanissian)
Mira Sermanissian is the Human Resource Director for a manufacturer of airline part in Montreal.
The environment of the company is one of high stress, due in part to the necessity to produce
parts with no errors. Because the company operates in a “just-in-time environment, there is no
inventory and the parts not only must perfect, they must be produced on demand. This need for
precision and timelessness has resulted in an environment that some employees compare to
that of brain surgery. As a result of this tension, Sermanissian realized that she needed to take
steps to ensure that stress would not affect the physical and psychological health of the firm’s
employees.
