Your final paper is a sociological analysis of The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness. NOTE: I know the directions say to read the book, I do not have the book, however the Study Guide for the book is attached. DO what you can to answer the questions the best you can with the resources provided.
This is not simply a book report. While you will be briefly summarizing the work (the summary should be no more than one page), I am much more interested in your analytical interpretations of the book: What sociological theory/theories best suits the authorâ€s findings? What substantive areas (income, poverty, social exclusion, racial inequality, urban inequality, gender, politics, globalization, etc.) does the work address? Does the work address the intersections of inequality? Most importantly, what concepts, theories, etc. that were discussed during class and in the readings best illuminates the authorâ€s findings (this should make up the bulk of the paper)? However, as you analyze the book you must refer to different sections and chapters so as to demonstrate you have read the book.
4-5 pages, double-spaced, Times New Roman, 12 point font, 1 inch margins all around (no title page)
