SAT Test Locations & Dates

The SAT is offered several times a year in facilities all over the world. Read on to learn where you can take the test, how and when you should register, and how to go about preparing for this exam.
SAT Testing Locations
In the United States, the SAT is offered at centrally-located educational institutions, including high schools, colleges and universities, in every state and U.S. territory. To find the test center nearest to you, you can search the College Board’s online test center locator. This information is also published in the back of paper SAT registration packets.
International Locations
International students and U.S. students who are living abroad can take the SAT at over 1,000 international test centers located in more than 175 countries. Like U.S. test centers, international test centers can be found by searching the College Board’s online test center locator. Note that some international test centers have additional fees and regulations.
Alternate Locations
If you live more than 75 miles from the nearest U.S. or international test center, you can request to test closer to your home. The College Board will assist you by opening a test center within 75 miles of your location. This accommodation is not offered in all countries.
Testing Dates
The SAT is offered several times a year, both in the United States and internationally. Test dates are scheduled for the following days in 2020-2021:
October 3, 2020
November 7, 2020
December 5, 2020
March 13, 2021
May 8, 2021
June 5, 2021
Students with religious conflicts can also request Sunday testing. Consult the College Board website for updated information, specific test dates and to find out how to request a different testing date.
How to Register for the SAT
In order to have online access to test resources and to quickly and easily select your test date and test center, registration on the College Board SAT website is the preferred method. Students who wish to pay with a check or money order, are younger than 13, or who require certain accommodations, will need to register by mail. The paper registration materials can be obtained from a school counselor.
Preparing to Take the SAT
The SAT consists of timed sections in three different subject areas: mathematics, reading, and writing & language. The essay section is optional to take, but is required by some colleges. All required sections include multiple-choice questions, and the math section also includes grid-in (problem-solving) questions. The total test time is 3 hours, with an additional 50 minutes if you opt to take the essay portion.
